UK Building Regulations should be considered when installing new hand dryers. The regulations are intended to create safer environments for the public and will help to reduce the risk of injury when using your bathrooms.

How Many Hand Dryers Do You Need

Although the UK building regulations specify the quantity of sinks and toilets you require in a building, there are no specific guidelines for the number of hand dryers that are needed in bathrooms. When planning bathrooms, it is useful to consider the maximum number of people who will be using the facilities at any one time and installing an appropriate number to allow people to pass through the bathroom as quickly as possible. In small offices, a single dryer may be sufficient, whereas in a busy bar, more should be installed.

Can Hand Dryers be Mounted Above a Sink

As an electrical appliance, a hand dryer should be installed more than 60cm away from a source of water to reduce the risk of shock, however if this is not possible due to the size or layout of the room, it is possible to mount an IPx4 dryer closer to the source of water because it is protected.

How High do Hand Dryers Need to Be Mounted

For most users, there are no specific requirements for how high a hand dryer should be mounted on the wall – although you should follow the recommendations here. The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) does specify mounting heights for hand dryers in disabled bathrooms. Hands-in dryers such as the Mitsubishi Electric Wave i01 should be mounted 875mm above the floor, and hands-under dryers such as the Mitsubishi Electric Wave u02 should be mounted higher, 940mm above the ground.
