Maintaining Hand Dryers

There are typically two areas to consider when it comes to maintenance, the day-to-day preventative actions that you take in order to ensure that equipment works correctly and reliably, and the reactive maintenance that is required when equipment fails.  Both areas are important, and a good preventative maintenance and cleaning schedule will usually help to reduce the risk of equipment failure in the longer term.

When it comes to hand dryer maintenance, there are several key factors to consider:

Surface Cleaning

The exterior surfaces of a hand dryer play an important role in its function.  Ensuring that they are regularly wiped clean prevents the build-up of germs and protects the components inside.  The Mitsubishi Electric Wave hand dryer range is manufactured with anti-bacterial plastics which help to retard the growth of germs on the surface and mean that the exterior can be wiped down as part of a simple cleaning process.

Hand Dryer Air Filter Cleaning

Most hand dryers will incorporate an air filter into their design to prevent dust and dirt particles from being drawn into the interior assembly.  This particulate matter will build up over time, and if not addressed could clog the filter.  Even a partially blocked filter will affect the performance of the hand dryer, making the motor work harder to push the same amount of air, and this can affect the lifespan.

Air filters should be removed regularly and cleaned.  In the case of the Mitsubishi Electric Wave range, this is a simple process which does not require any tools to complete.

Water Reservoirs

In a hands-in hand dryer such as the Mitsubishi Electric Wave i01, water blown from the skin is collected in a reservoir that will need to be emptied periodically.  This is an easily removable pod that contains 0.8l of excess water – the equivalent of around 800 uses.  The pod should be emptied on a regular basis to prevent it from overflowing and to minimise the risk of bacterial growth on internal surfaces.
