One of the most common complaints about hand dryers when in use is the amount of noise they generate. Some older designs can operate at more than 90DB – about the sound of a train passing – which can be painful for younger children and can also be a disturbance in the surrounding area.

In locations such as offices, schools, and restaurants, installing the quietest possible hand dryers – even if they are not totally silent – can help to reduce noise pollution and create a more relaxed atmosphere.

Most of the noise from hand dryers is a combination of the air rushing from the nozzles and the fan itself. Poorly designed dryers using inferior motors can create a whistling noise that is both irritating and unpleasant for anyone nearby.

Rather than pushing air through a wide nozzle which can create a lot of additional sound, the Wave i01 and Wave u02 hand dryers use a narrow stream of air. This combined with Mitsubishi Electric’s patented Wave Nozzle® creates high efficiency and less turbulence and as a result, less noise. The innovative design of the Wave Nozzle® is complemented by a high efficiency motor and internal sound proofing that makes the range more efficient and quieter in use. In operation, the Wave i01 generates around 60DB of sound at full power – around a quarter of that you get from a more traditional design (An increase of 10DB doubles the audible sound level).
